The new owners of Point Edward’s casino announced plans Thursday to spend $26 million renovating and re branding the site as one its Starlight Casinos.
Work is expected to begin with the addition of a family friendly restaurant called Match Eatery and Public House which will have a separate entrance allowing it to welcome and serve minors, and a patio next to the St. Clair River, said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos and Entertainment.
The company, which also has casinos in Western Canada and Northern Ontario, recently purchased the Point Edward casino, along with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation sites in London, Dresden, Woodstock, Clinton and Hanover.
Santo said Point Edward will be the company’s first large redevelopment project in southwestern Ontario.

Renovations at the 17 year old Point Edward casino are expected to include a new gaming floor and a buffet in place of its existing restaurant.
Santo said the casino is expected to remain open during the renovations, which are designed to this property into an entertainment destination. for Point Edward follow a growth and redevelopment strategy the company launched in 2013, he said.
we noticed is that a lot of our properties were just slots in the box, and those were getting sort of old and tired. of that effort came four main signature brands for the company’s sites, and Point Edward considered a good fit for its Starlight Casino brand, Santo said.

Those offerings will be in line with what offered at casinos in Windsor, Niagara Falls and Michigan, he said.

As host municipality, Point Edward has received approximately $2.25 million annually from casino revenues as part of a municipal contribution agreement that will continue under the new ownership.
