womans uggs Via Mode shoe store in Hoboken hopes for strong holiday season
“A lot of people have been asking for Uggs,” she said, noting that they were offering $20 off each pair. “Last year we sold a lot of Uggs for Christmas presents. They’re our biggest sellers.”
This year has been rough for the store, which turned 20 this summer. “We’re hoping to do well. It’s been kind of slow this year,” said Flores. “We had a flood before the hurricane and we lost a lot of shoes. We had no income for about two months.”
Since the disaster, however, the shoe store has bounced back by expanding their kids and babies section and cutting down on their men’s stock. Men’s shoes, which are generally more expensive than women’s and kids’ shoes, are a riskier investment.
Flores had high hopes for the year, noting that owner Eunice Aridi’s sharp eye for quality merchandise has attracted many Hobokenites.
“There are only a few shoe stores in town and we’re the most popular,” she said. “We have a lot of shoes from Europe that are not made in China and people like that.”
While she expected today’s business to be slow with people flocking to malls and big box stores for Black Friday deals, she said business was actually “not bad” today.
“After they hit the malls, people hit local stores to see what deals they have,” she explained.
For the holidays, the store is offering 10 percent off all shoes except clogs, 50 percent off summer stock, 20 percent off spring stock and up to 75 percent off women’s summer shoes. Customers can also get a complimentary scarf with any $50 purchase.
