Orlando, about 2.5 hours by air from Cleveland, is served by several airlines with direct nonstop flights.

It very hot in the summer, so consider that when making your plans, especially with young children. Swimming pools at the Disney hotels are amazing, especially between Yacht Club and Beach Club properties where I most recently stayed. They make a great place to cool down after a few hours in the parks. Disney World parks and attractions cover an area the size of San Francisco, so it virtually impossible to see and do it all on a single visit. I recommend staying at a Disney resort because the many perks include free transportation to the parks and one to two hours extra at selected parks. If you fly and stay at a Disney World hotel, a free Disney World Express bus takes you and your luggage between the airport and hotel. At the end of your stay you will get your airline boarding pass from the hotel when you check out.

If you drive, you now can enter the free parking garage at Disney Springs directly from the freeway. A ramp from Buena Vista Drive leads you into the garage, where digital overhead signs direct you to empty parking spots. They called Magic Hours, and they give guests an extra hour or two beyond the regular operating schedule at one of the four parks. When you check in, you learn about the schedule so you can plan.

In the hottest part of the day, you can return to your hotel, cool off in the pool and take a long afternoon nap. Awake refreshed for nighttime fun, which can last until 11 or even later at Disney Springs.

The beloved theme parks Epcot, the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios have a lot that new. And the transformation of the former Downtown Disney, announced three years ago, has morphed into Disney Springs. That waterfront hub has many dining, shopping and entertainment options.

The typical Disney stories begun at theme park attractions continue at Disney Springs. Consider, for instance, Jock Lindsey Hangar Bar, a personal favorite. This aviation themed lounge is inspired by the adventures of Jock Lindsey, frequent pilot for Indiana Jones. It jampacked with vintage travel posters among its old timey artifacts and drinks with their own stories. One, the Cool headed Monkey, comes from Jock adventures in Africa.

Foodies are very likely to enjoy Disney Springs.

Morimoto Asia in a dramatic two floor space with grand halls, a cocktail lounge and waterside seating. Here you find extraordinary late night sushi in the Forbidden Lounge and peek into the glass walled kitchen to watch the preparation of Peking duck and traditional dim sum. Just opened is a new walk up window on the patio with snacks such as takoyaki (octopus, nori, okomiyaki sauce), Morimoto sticky ribs, curry rice croquettes, pork egg rolls and taiyaki (snapper shaped pancake filled with sweet adzuki red bean paste).

Gorgeous cakes and other sweet treats are the province of Amorette Patisserie, with its stylish desserts and large special occasion treats. The new D Luxe Burger moves way beyond ketchup and mustard with a quartet of dipping sauces and handmade buns plus artisanal gelato milkshakes. Among the most interesting: the Southern Classic, a beef patty topped with fried green tomato, pimento cheese and bacon. And then there El Diablo, a chorizo blend burger with fried banana peppers, pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo.

Opened less than a month ago in the heart of Disney Springs is the new Town Center a growing collection of shops that so far include Tommy Bahama, UGG, Kate Spade, Sperry and Sephora. More than 40 more shops will open in phases throughout the summer.

Reach the Spanish revival style area from a promenade across the springs, which, as the story goes, replicate an old time Florida settlement with timber framed structures once used in the citrus and ranching industries. Wolf Sausage Co., The Daily Poutine, YeSake, and Aristocrepes.

The Daily Poutine, which grew from the Canada pavilion in Epcot, salutes the Quebec based french fry extravaganza framed around fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. Too heavy for me, at least in the Florida climate, but they been gobbled up by park guests since the dish debuted.

Aristocrepes fills traditional crepes with yummy savory and sweet ingredients, such as beef with horseradish creme and a s crepe with marshmallow cream.

Back in the theme parks, visitors will find a new lineup of attractions this summer, including afterdark adventures in Animal Kingdom. The Kilimanjaro Safari, for instance, is an entirely different place at night, and the screams from those riding Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids seem much louder in the evening. That park Tree of Life rivals the fireworks with enchanted fireflies and animal spirits appearing among its branches once darkness falls.

Over at Epcot, Anna, Elsa and other beloved characters from the film will welcome visitors aboard a new Frozen Ever After boatride debuting June 21 in the Norway pavilion.

Guests will meet new friends from the new Dory movie at Turtle Talk with Crush.

Beginning June 17 on the Cinderella Castle stage at the Magic Kingdom will be Mickey Royal Friendship Faire, with 10 new friends from different animated worlds.
